Welcome to the Swillington Ings Bird Group Website, the pages here describe the Group’s arrangements, the wildlife recording area, details of individual sites, historical records and current sightings.

The sightings pages for birds and insects allow for anyone with a genuine email address to add their sightings in the appropriate “Comments” box. Everybody is encouraged to submit their sightings to website but we would also ask that where convenient records are also entered in the logbook in the observation hide at the end of Fleet Lane, Oulton, as this is the focal point for the both members and visitors (and our Recorder).

The “Notice Board” page, apart from displaying events and news, also has a Comments facility which permits discussion/comment on any aspect of the Group.

The aim of the Group is simply to share wildlife sightings and to contribute to nature conservation in the Lower Aire Valley although most of the Group’s efforts are concentrated around Astley Lake and the developing St Aidan’s site. An annual report is produced every year with the monies from the sale of this and that from membership fees going to the maintenance and upkeep of the local habitat and the hide.

Group membership cost £5 per annum and this includes a copy of the report. Membership application forms are available in the hide and from this website or you may get in touch with the Secretary by leaving a note on the Contacts page.

VISITORS ARE REQUESTED TO ENSURE THAT THE HIDE IS LOCKED ON LEAVING.
