  1. Black Tern main lake this afternoon. Garden Warbler at caroline bridge. Also Yellow Wag and very big numbers of hirundines and swifts.

  2. Adult Kittiwake through going NW at 09.20. 12 Turnstone and up to 20 Dunlin on Astley spillway. The Black-tailed Godwits still on ridge & furrow.

  3. Non-singing male Golden Oriole seen twice briefly this morning along the Wike Beck to the west of Skelton Lake. Turnstone still at Astley. c1500 Swifts over Astley/St. Aidan’s this morning. Yellow Wagtail still on Lemonroyd filter beds.

  4. Goshawk over Astley Lake disappeared into Swillington Park 1150hrs (subject to acceptance of course). First winter Little Gull on the spillway all morning, despite being disturbed twice by Vince. Also Dunlin, Ringed Plover (and one at Skelton) and Common Sandpiper there.
    Yellow Wagtail still on the filterbeds (PW).

  5. 2 1st winter Little Gulls in Main Bay, drake Garganey on Oxbow between Main Lake and Lowther and a cream-crowned Marsh Harrier over ridge and furrow this evening.
    Hobby and Turnstone at Astley (GYL).

  13. no Quail heard near dragline, but green woodpecker calling. Both species of partridge called and showed in the evening. Barn owl appeared at 2100 hrs and hunted between bowers and dragline and took prey.

  14. A Fox swam onto Boomerang Island this afternoon and took several Black-headed Gull chicks.
    Turnstone, 3 Ringed Plover, 2 LRP, Common sandpiper and Dunlin were on Astley along with a White Wagtail and a pair of Yellow Wagtails.

  16. An interesting Gull on Astley this morning which looked like a good bet for Caspian was probably a 2nd calendar year Lesser-black Backed Gull.
