Monday 5th November.

Still pretty quiet on site over the last few days with no new birds reported. The juvenile Scaup was seen again on Sunday, the Short Eared Owls are being a bit of a crowd pleaser with members and visitors turning up at dusk to see them hunting over the reserve.

Three lister’s and a few members travelled further afield today into Derbyshire twitching the Dusky Thrush which had been reported yesterday evening on the media services, DIH, GYL, DAH being the listers who made the trip, one of them had to take his 2 year old Granddaughter along, (well you have to start them young), chips and quavers seemed too make her happy.

Thursday 1st December.

Two new species were seen in November a Raven and a Hen Harrier, there has being very little change to the league tables since the Hen Harrier sighting mid November. The race for the title looks to be between the top two unless one of the chasing pack has a very good run this month. December has  always been a poor month for new species recorded with most years no new sightings, in the last eight years only once has there been two new species seen and that was in 2010.

Sunday 27th November.

No updates received from any listers for several days but there has been a few sightings of birds recently that several listers still need for their list’s, Merlin & Woodcock being two of the birds. There is some decent species about the reserve that one or two listers still need, Bearded Tit, Great White Egret, Water Pipit, Short Eared Owl, Barn Owl.

Tuesday 22nd November.

Hello fans sorry for no posts since last week but there has not been much to report , the only update received is RM has added three species since his last update in September taking his total to 136.

Two Common Scoter’s were new in today, the Great White Egret is still residing in the reedbeds, a few Whooper Swans keep dropping in, Water Pipits keep being seen, the resident male Marsh Harrier keeps upsetting the Lapwing & Golden Plover flocks. The Starlings are still putting on a show at dusk with a few flocks during the day joining the Lapwings & Golden Plovers in flight when disturbed by the local Raptors.

Thursday 17th November.

No news to report from the last few days. The year list still stands at 175, there has been reports of Waxwings in the area & a Ring Necked Parakeet has been reported several times this year, both these species have not been added to the year total as yet. As with a few other records of various Geese and Caspian Gull claims still awaiting acceptance by the Goosestapo & Gullstapo. We are now also waiting for the Parrot Police and the Waxwing Watchdogs ruling over these claims. Also outstanding is  the Corvid Cops ruling over the Raven claims. So when confirmation is received on whether the above sightings are accepted or rejected the year list total could change.

Monday 14th November.

Both league tables have been updated with all the latest information received. Raven & Hen Harrier included, plus all other additions.

Sunday 13th November.

Definitely a new bird for the year today with a stunning male Hen Harrier seen over the Ridge n Furrow area in tandem at first with a Marsh Harrier, sadly the bird didn’t hang about for too long as it drifted off south east, several lucky listers were on site at the time to see this excellent find, DAH, GYL, DIH, RDH, GR, JM & JMS, the latter two from a fair distance but well seen from their vantage point. It takes the year total to 175.

Saturday 12th November.

Another addition for PRM yesterday with a Scaup seen on Bower’s lake this takes his total to 158. Still fairly quiet on site the highlight’s being the above Scaup still present yesterday. The Great White Egret paid a visit to the western reedbed briefly from Skelton lake before departing South. A Knot was on the eastern reedbed also very briefly, another second hand report of Waxwings around the Marina area so one for the rarities committee to consider. The Starlings are still putting on a show at dusk and are drawing a few people down to see this spectacle.

Tuesday 8th November.

One update received PRM had a Woodcock this morning in the Skelton area it takes his total to 157. A Juvenile Scaup found on Bower’s lake this morning and not too far away at nearby reserve’s a few Sea Ducks like Long Tailed Ducks & Common Scoter’s have been turning up, so well worth checking out the ducks in the hope of a L T D or something more rarer, it could be good given the weather forecast for the next 24 hours.

Sunday 6th November.

Two more Ravens flying over the reserve today allowed PRM 156 who was in the right place to see the birds unlike some listers who were on site but in the wrong area at the time of the birds presence.

Forgot to add yesterday that the Raven seen by RDH & DIH was a new bird for the site for them, (see the members life list page for update).

Saturday 5th November.

A new bird for the year (subject to acceptance) a Raven was seen flying South over the site late morning (RDH, DIH), at first thought to be a Buzzard so one for the Corvid Cops to scrutinise. If accepted it will take the year list to 174.  A few more addition’s received DM added Water Rail and PW added Barnacle Goose but this species could be axed from the list and placed in the feral category by the Goosestapo.

Thursday 3rd November.

Saw this little Beauty today a Eastern Black Redstart in North Yorkshire, (Cleveland), be nice to get one at Swilly. ( click on photo for larger image)

Two listers have added to their lists, DM added the Great White Egret yesterday taking his total to 151. DIH added todays Mediterranean Gull taking his total to 163.

Five Waxwings were reported yesterday by a visitor, i have not added them to the total yet, i will speak to the recorder about this claim as i only know from his post yesterday on the sightings page that these birds had been reported.
