Above table updated with information received, may be the odd discrepancy until i receive further updates.

)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).

Monday 16th January.

Thought i would do the above league table seeing as the weather was pretty poor today, and having spent 17 hours hours on site over Saturday & Sunday a day off was a welcome rest for the plates of meat (feet).

JP added ten species yesterday and is now on 65 species seen, JMS added White Fronted Goose taking his total to 89. JB keeps plodding on and he has now seen 90 species.

Sunday 15th January.

A few updates received, AR has opened up with 95 species seen with four of them this evening when he added Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gull, Dunlin & Tawny Owl. PRM 98 with Woodcock seen on Friday. GYL 93 with Glaucous Gull & Treecreeper. DAH 87 with several birds added over the last few days. JP 58 with Glaucous, Iceland and Redpoll.

Saturday 14th January.

No new birds found today but still a few mover’s on the listing table, REL still on 101, DIH up one on 99 with a Willow Tit, PRM still on 97, RDH up one with WFG 95, GYL added two species 91 one of them a Woodcock, JB enters the fray on 88, JMS with Iceland Gull 87, JDM still on 85, DM 83, DAH & GR on 80, PGC 64, JP 55, PW 54.

I will be doing the usual league tables at the end of the month when I have all the information in. So could all you non Bubo users please forward your sightings before the month end. Thanks.

Friday 13th JANUARY.

Apparently while looking for more Golden Pheasant to count DAH found two White Fronted Geese on the ridge n furrow which are new for the year, subject to acceptance by the Goosestapo. Well done to REL with this addition of the WFG he is the first to see 100 species on site this year, he also added a Green Sandpiper taking his total to 101. Other additions received so far today are :- DIH 98, PRM 97, RDH still on 94, GYL out of his slumber 89, JMS with 3 additions 86, DAH 77, no further changes received .

Another frustrating sighting today of Waxwings on Aberford road found by REL which flew towards the recording area boundary but stopped 15 yards away before they disappeared out of sight.

THURSDAY 12th JANUARY.

Several updates received but no new species recorded since last Thursday, REL 99, DIH with Willow Tit today 97, PRM reckons he is on 95, RDH 94, GYL has he gone into hibernation ? 87, JDM a big mover onto 85, JMS enters the race on 83, DM still on 83, DAH on only 76 he must still be counting those Golden Pheasants, PGC still on 64 he must be snowed in, JP 55, PW bringing up the rear again on 54.

Plenty of Waxwings around the Leeds area, I had 150 in Hunslet today with others seen in Crossgates, Beeston, Morley and central Leeds, hopefully some will stray into our area.

TUESDAY 10th JANUARY.

Nearly a new bird for the year when 21 Waxwings  were seen just outside the recording area, the birds soon disappeared and could well have flown into our area so well worth keeping a lookout.

Several updates received with REL leading the way on 99 species seen, will he be the first to see 100 species or has PRM who has yet to submit his total already beaten him to it ?

Totals :- REL 99, DIH 96, RDH 94, GYL 87, DM 83, GR 80, JDM 78, DAH 73, PGC 64, PW 54, JP 51.

SUNDAY 8th JANUARY.

Water Rail added onto the year list it was seen by DM on Thursday this takes the year list to 105. There could be another addition according to DAH with his Bubo list showing 400-500 Golden Pheasant on the ridge n furrow, good job eagle eyed REL noticed this anomaly, it would also be a new record for the site or even a record count for Britain, a nice clerical error there Dr Dave, I think you mean Golden Plovers.

A good day for REL with four new species added, Dunlin, Glaucous Gull, Iceland Gull & Tawny Owl which takes his total to 97. Also an even better day for RDH who also had the above species and a Peregrine falcon taking him onto 94. DAH with the removal of Golden Pheasant is now on 73.

SATURDAY 7th JANUARY.

Three more addition’s to the year list with Pink Footed Goose, Dunlin & Tawny Owl. A Glaucous Gull & Iceland Gull in the area today allowed a few of the listers a chance of adding these species onto their list’s. Totals received so far are, REL, 93, DIH 91, RDH 89, GYL 87, DM 80, JDM 67, DAH 65, PGC 64, PW 54, JP 27.

THURSDAY 5th JANUARY.

With just five days of the new year the year list now stands at 101, three additions today are Willow Tit (REL), Skylark & Yellowhammer (PRM).

Totals received so far, DIH 90, REL 90, RDH 89, GYL 83, DM 80, JDM 67, PGC 64, PW 54, JP 27.

WEDNESDAY 4th JANUARY.

The year list now stands at 98 with the information received, at the moment I don’t have any records of whether Tawny Owl, Willow Tit, Dunlin, Bearded Tit, Yellowhammer or any Pinkfeet flying over have been seen yet, if so can you let me or PRM know. Today’s additions were Iceland Gull found by DIH and Glaucous Gull found by  member M. Robinson.

TUESDAY 3rd JANUARY.

Two more species added today with Grey Partridge and Little Owl being the birds seen. RDH 89, DIH 89, REL has opened up with 86 Species seen, GYL 79, DM 67, PGC 64, PW 54.

MONDAY 2nd JANUARY.

The year list rose to 94 species seen with the best bird being a very obliging Jack Snipe which was found by AR, some other additions today were Green Sandpiper, Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Peregrine, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Chiffchaff.

Just six listers have forwarded their totals at time of posting they are RDH 87, DIH 84, GYL 78, DM 66, PGC 64, PW 46.

SUNDAY 1st JANUARY.

A wet start to the year then turning cold and windy after the rain stopped but a few hardy souls were not put off by the weather and were rewarded with a few decent birds. The Long Tailed Duck was most listers priority species today and a early morning call from PRM that the bird was still present had several listers down ticking the bird. A bonus later of a Brambling found by PRM & GYL was a nice addition to the year list. At time of posting 84 species were recorded today, with RDH seeing 81, DIH 77, GYL 72, PGC 64.

Thanks for the support and comments received in the comments box at the very bottom of this page.

Saturday 31st December.

One last update, PRM with the last tick of 2016 added a Barn Owl taking his total to 160.

There was no last minute additions by the top two, with both of them still on site as the last light of 2016 finally faded away so both DIH & GYL finish level on 166 species seen for the year, Congratulations .

So we all begin again tomorrow lets hope for a Bird filled year with a few more rarities. Here are a few of the birds that have been recorded in recent years but were missing from this years list :-  Ruddy Duck, Red Crested Pochard, Smew, Ring Ouzel, Redstart, Quail, Waxwing, Mealy Redpoll, Spoonbill. For more omissions see Previous Years Sightings Page.

Happy New Year.

It’s getting to that time of the year in deciding if we are carrying on next year with the Swilly listers patch challenge or has it run it’s course and needs retiring ? Please let me know your thoughts, I’m happy to carry on with this blog maybe in a different format but if anyone wants to take over I would be happy to step aside. Sorry for all the incorrect punctuation marks spelling mistakes and bad English at times over the last few years. That reminds me am i proof reading the report again for next year ?
